You may be nauseous, tired, completely uncomfortable and totally self conscious about your growing belly but bringing your little one into the world is a wonderful life event that should be documented. It’s a time you are going to want to remember and share with your little one once they are older. If you are thinking about or have recently booked a maternity photo session then the below tips should come in handy as you prepare for your session.
- The best time to schedule your session will vary with each Mama to be but is usually between 28 and 34 weeks. Ultimately your session should occur when you're feeling your most comfortable and can show off your nice round belly.
- It's important to moisturize those knees, elbows and belly but it's best to do so 1 – 2 hours before the session to avoid any shininess or sticky clothes. You should also avoid wearing any tight fitting watches or bracelets that might leave marks on your skin.
- Your materntiy session is the perfect time to treat yourself to a neutral or light colored manicure. I recommend 1 – 2 days prior to your maternity session so that you can take some beautiful shots with your hands on your tummy.
- I'm all about personalizing your session, so if you have special baby items such as shoes, hats, toys, blankets or onesies, or family heirlooms, bring them along as they make for adorable props.
- Take the time to pick the right outfit for your maternity shoot. You should of course be comfortable but make sure that your clothing doesn’t detract from your tummy’s shape and your natural glow. Avoid large, bold patterns or clothing that is too loose. Empire waists, drawstrings, flowing tops and wrap dresses are perfect for enhancing your shape. Also check with your photographer, they may have a studio maternity wardrobe for you to choose from.
